Blood Disorders Research at Penn

Physicians and researchers at the Penn–CHOP Blood Center conduct basic, translational and clinical blood disorder research focused on understanding the biology and causes of blood disorders and improving diagnosis and treatment.

The focus of basic scientists in the Center is in the following areas:

  • Hematopoiesis
  • HIV/Host blood center interactions
  • Hemostasis and thrombosis
  • Iron metabolism
  • Hemoglobinopathies

Clinical and translational research is a major focus for faculty in the Center. Research at Penn encompasses a highly integrated program involving physicians and scientists across the disease spectrum with particular focus in the areas of in:
